Local Deck Codes for Asheville and Buncombe County

The City of Asheville and Buncombe County deck codes are very similiar. Where there are slight variations, the City of Asheville Codes are more stringent. Therefore, we routinely build to city standards so that it will pass in both areas.

However, one main difference that you may or may not decide to implement is the city's handrail code. The city's code does not permit a 2x4 to be used as the handrail on the stairs.
